Dear Nin

I thought of you each time I lit the candles for yet another family gathering or party. I sent you a kiss as I fastened my special bracelet on Christmas morning. Wearing your crystals makes me feel that you are in the middle of all the laughter and chatter. Where you should be and where you always were. Each time I set out my china teacups and sat quietly for a moment or two I'd remember the sound of the spoon tinkling as you stirred your early morning tea. Then the shuffling of feet as you made your way to window to watch the world waking up. You were good at being calm and still. I'm trying to be. On New Year's day as I scribbled out a list of new things to try, I thought of you again. How industrious and resourceful you always were, how clever and creative. You never waited around for someone to show you or for the time to be right, you just got on with the job. Rolled your sleeves up and did it.

I always feared that as the years went by we would feel you further and further away from us and yet the opposite seems to be true. I love to think of you and to talk about you. I'm so lucky to have had someone who meant so much to me that even now can influence me for the good. To feel both comforted and inspired just as I always did. As the years fly by (and oh how they fly) my love and admiration for you remains the same. My lovely Nin.  Love you always x

Happy New Year!

This year my main plan is to work hard, be kind and generally just keep showing up. My word of the year is......create. I am going to fiddle and make and paint and grow things whenever I get the chance. Wishing you all many sweet and happy days in the year ahead.x
